Micro-Coordination: Do You?

There was a time not too long ago, when you made plans to meet someone at a specific time & place, and the expectation was that you'd both show up.  Period.  There were no cell phones to say you're on the way, or running late.  You just knew that you'd be there.

Now things are different.  No one sits at home waiting for the telephone to ring.  We can adjust plans based on real-time events — traffic jams, late night at the office, etc, etc.  It's called micro-coordination.  The term was created by Richard Ling, a professor of communication at the IT University of Copenhagen to describe these freewheeling social interactions.
